Teaser Trailer Research.
A Teaser Trailer is a short trailer released before a Theatrical Trailer and around a year before the actual films release that is used to advertise an upcoming movie, game or TV Series. Teasers are around 30-60 seconds long and don’t usually contain much footage from the film. The concept of a teaser trailer is to ‘tease’ the audience before the films release and to build up hype for the film. Tease Trailers are a big marketing technique and many Film Distributers use them.
Teaser Trailers are different to normal trailers as they are a lot shorter, don’t contain much information about the film and are released much before the film débuts.
Teaser trailers are normally only made for high budget films and/or films what have certain themes to them, which people will already understand. What a teaser Trailer does in this case is to let people know that the movie is coming up and that they have something to look forward to them, this also adds normally tons of hype for a film, therefore being a big marketing success. Teaser trailers are often made while the film is still in production or being edited and as a result they may feature scenes or alternate versions of scenes that are not in the finished film. Pixar films have scenes made for use in the trailer only.
Good Examples of Great Teaser Trailers.
Cloverfield: The Teaser Trailer For Cloverfield was released half a year before the released of the film on Transformers.
Almost no information about the film was released in this teaser only the Directors name and the release date.
Jurassic Park: Another teaser with no footage from the movie, just a short sequence explaining how a piece of amber was discovered containing the perfectly preserved remains of a prehistoric mosquito, “one of many that had fed upon the blood of dinosaurs.” We’re then told that from this came DNA which allowed science to clone the dinosaur at a place called Jurassic Park, and that “this summer director Steven Spielberg will take you there.” I’m in!
The Dark Knight: The Dark Knight Teaser Trailer is a common approach to teaser Trailers as it contains no footage of the actual film, like most teasers which often have little or no footage of the actual film. The trailer just has the speech of 3 of the main characters, Batman, The Joker and Alfred Pennyworth. This was really just a hype trailer to get everyone excited about the sequel to Batman Begins.
Trailers History
· The First ever trailer was shown in theatres on November 1913.
Trailers used to follow the end of the film, hence the name trailer, but then they were moved to the beginning of the movie due to people leaving the cinema after the film ended and not seeing them.
· Trailers now do still appear in cinemas before they appear anywhere else but now they appear on multiple platforms including, the Internet and television.
